FIRST NATIONS ZONE

Yura! Welcome to the First Nations Zone in the Wynnum Fringe Garden.

In 2022 we are proud to be working with our First Nations Elders and advisors to bring you a First Nations Zone, as part of the new Garden Festival hub.

The First Nations Zone will host the Elders Tent: a place for locals of all backgrounds to come down and have a yarn with an elder. A safe place for all members of the community to relax, listen and learn from our elders.

It will also host market stalls for the duration of the festival from local First Nations retailers and artists including award-winning Artist Jillian Jacob (pictured), Jacqui Carter-O’Leary, Kimberley Wade (Carter) along with other artists – as well as tours and workshops from Delvene Cockatoo-Collins.

Continuing with our cultural language and naming themes from Yana Maroomba, you can also grab yourself a copy of the Jandai Language dictionary and pick up on some local knowledge while you’re there.
